Have you dreamed of hitting the road and traveling the US or the world, experiencing all our wonderful world has to offer?

Have you figured it’s just a dream that will never be a reality?

That was us, until we decided to take control of our lives, make some drastic changes, and finally achieve those dreams we never thought we’d experience. It’s not an easy journey, and we’re still working to achieve those dreams, but the payoff will be more than worth all the work.

In between working hard to achieve our long term goals, we’re taking the time to have fun family adventures. We’re hiking and camping and road tripping in our RV and this summer we plan on doing some kayaking, as well as other adventures.

I’m still working to overcome bad habits that were established during the ten years of illness I suffered due to undiagnosed celiac disease. It’s been nine years since then, and I’m much healthier than I was, but I’m still on a journey of healing. Part of that journey is intentionally choosing to be more active and to help the whole family develop healthy habits.

It can be hard to get out for adventures on a regular basis. We’ve had lots of adventures in the past, but they weren’t very consistent.

Dealing with the effects of undiagnosed celiac disease created some very bad habits in myself and my husband Jeremy. My energy levels were so low that I insisted he always park as close to the store as possible. If the grocery shopping was taking too long and I couldn’t find everything, sometimes I’d just leave with what I had because I didn’t have the energy to keep going.

After ten years of feeling crummy I went gluten free and started feeling better. Eight years later, I’m still a work in progress. The damage done has been longer lasting than I anticipated and there’s a lot of foods I can’t eat because I can’t digest them. If I do eat them, I don’t feel well and don’t function very well.

Jeremy and I were active when we were kids and since my good days now far out-number the bad days it’s time for us to help our children form good habits and learn to love the outdoors.

The key here is consistency.

We’ve had some great adventures in the past, and we’ll continue to have big adventures, but we also want to experience smaller adventures on a regular basis.

We started out last spring by adding a weekly hike to our schedule and this summer we also added in field trips to National Park sites every other week.

We don’t always make it out, especially if bad weather or a bad day coincides with a hike or field trip day, but we’re improving and forming new habits. Join us on our journey!
