I’ve talked about things that help setting up your RV or travel trailer go smoother and easier, I’ve talked about some more things that make the process go easier, but maybe aren’t quite as necessary, and I shared some things that make hanging out by the campfire more enjoyable. I’ve also talked about some of our favorite upgrades in our kitchen and bath.

Now it’s time to talk about some of our favorite upgrades in our RV bedroom. I’m not just talking RV mattresses, I’m also talking about storage hacks and electronic doohickeys that make life just a bit easier.

Easy Upgrades for RV Bedrooms

1. Memory foam mattress topper

RV mattresses in general are not very comfortable. We put a completely new mattress in our travel trailer, but can’t do that in the RV since the mattress has to fold in half. We have this 2.5″ gel memory foam mattress topper on top of our RV mattress. Without the topper the mattress is rock hard and pretty much unusable. With the topper we actually get a decent night’s sleep. We’re not super fond of memory foam toppers in general (they’re so hard to move around on), but we’re willing to deal with that if it means we can sleep at night.

2. Tap lights

I bought a set of these tap lights and distributed them around the RV. I put them inside our larger cupboards and the closet so we can see what’s inside, and also put one under the cupboards over our bed for nighttime reading.

3. Dustbuster

We didn’t have a dustbuster in our trailer, but we made sure to get one for our RV. We have a broom and dust pan, but sometimes you just need a vacuum to get all the food crumbs and tracked-in dirt cleaned up (especially with little kiddos making a mess). It holds its charge and doesn’t take too long to recharge, so we’re not left with a dead dustbuster halfway through cleaning the RV.

4. Hanging shoe holders

Hang one of these shoe holders on a door or cut one horizontally and attach inside cupboard doors or by the side of a bunk bed. Basically these can be put in many different spots and can hold many different things. Shoes, glasses, small toys, art supplies, toiletries, mittens and gloves, the uses are endless.

5. Hanging sweater holders

The closet in our RV is large, but we don’t always need all that hanging space. This hanging sweater holder gives us extra shelves and even has pockets on the side for extra organization.

6. Storage bins for organization

I mentioned our outdoor storage bins in this post, but we also have bins inside the RV. Bins help keep clothing, food, toiletries, etc, organized. We have clear bins for keeping most of the kids’ clothes organized, and these white IKEA bins are perfect for socks and underwear. I think they’re marketed for kitchen storage, which would also be a great use.

7. Media player and thumb drive

We plug this media player into the TV using an HDMI cable, then plug a Gorilla thumb drive (ruggedized to stand up to camping conditions) into the media player. Those digital copies that come with DVD’s? Load them on a thumb drive, then watch them using the media player. You can also download movies from Amazon and Netflix for more variety. We don’t watch many movies while road tripping, but it’s nice to have them available if we do want them, and a thumb drive takes up so much less space than a stack of DVDs.

8. Inverter

Plug this inverter into a 12v DC outlet (aka a cigarette lighter plug) and then have the power you need to charge your laptop or other electronics. I use it so I can work while Jeremy drives, and Sunshine likes to charge the iPad she uses to listen to audiobooks. We have another inverter that plugs into the 12v outlet by the TV, which allows the TV to be used while we drive, no generator needed.
